The purpose of this study was to find out the important role of the secretary in handling incoming and outgoing letters in the filing section of the Medan Legal Aid Institute Office. In general, the secretary has the task of assisting the leadership in the administrative field. Within the Medan Legal Aid Institute itself, in general the secretary has the task of assisting the Head of the Legal Aid Agency in coordinating activities, administering government affairs in preparing activity plans and programs. The method used by the author is a qualitative method, namely research that is descriptive in nature and tends to use theoritical basis analysis which is used as a guide to focus on research in accordance with the facts in the field. The technique used in this research is the interview technique. The results of this study are that the handling of incoming and outgoing mail is still not optimal. This is caused by incomplete equipment and supplies for handling incoming and outgoing mail, such as filling cabinets, folders, and guides. The conclusion of this research is that the secretary plays a very important role in his activities in handling incoming and outgoing letters at the medan legal aid agency office.
