Abstract

Maimun Palace is the only relic that stands out the most to show the existence of Malay culture in the city of Medan. If you look at the shape and appearance of the Maimun Palace building, it has messages that are not directly visible, but in terms of visual communication, the Maimun Palace building also has a lot of information about the glory days, leadership and existence of the Malay Sultanate both in terms of appearance and the interior of the building. that he has. This research aims to determine the potential of the Maimun Palace as a tourist destination and to determine the role of local communities in managing the Maimun Palace destination. This research was conducted at the Maimun Palace building located on Jalan Sultan Ma'moen Al Rasyid, Medan Maimun, Medan City using a qualitative descriptive research method. The type of data needed in this research is secondary. The results of this research indicate that the Maimun palace building is worthy of conservation. Maimun Palace has historical tourism potential so it can be an opportunity for the community's economy where people can trade, especially in types of food and drinks, followed by accessories & crafts, clothing and toys.
