Relationship of Knowledge and Behaviour in Maintaining Oral Health Faculty of Architecture Engineering USU Students
Abstract
The majority of people do not realize that oral health problems are caused by behavioral factors that often ignore dental and oral hygiene. Maintaining dental and oral health is the behavior or effort of an individual to maintain healthy teeth and mouth to avoid dental and oral disease. The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between knowledge and oral health maintenance behavior among Architecture Engineering USU students. The type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional design. The population in this study were architectural engineering students, totaling 506 students. The research sample was obtained from Architecture Engineering USU students who were willing to be research samples using a simple random sampling technique of 142 students. Knowledge and behavior are measured using a questionnaire. Analysis of the relationship between knowledge and oral health maintenance behavior of students using the chi square test. The research results showed that the distribution of good knowledge was 61.3% and the distribution of adequate behavior was 51.4% and there was a significant relationship between knowledge and students' oral health maintenance behavior (p=0.001). It can be concluded that Architecture Engineering USU students have good knowledge about maintaining oral health, while their behavior is adequate.
