    Abstract
In denture wear, denture disinfection needs to be considered to maintain denture hygiene. Chemical disinfection methods have proven to be the most effective for denture wearers. A natural denture cleaning agent that has currently been developed is sungkai leaf. Sungkai leaves contain tannin and flavonoid compounds that can affect water absorption and color stability. Water absorption in acrylic resin can affect color stability. Poor color stability can affect the aesthetics of the denture, causing patient discomfort. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of immersion of heat cured acrylic resin denture bases in sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack) with concentrations of 30%, 35%, and 40% on water absorption and color stability. The design of this research is laboratory experimental. There were 40 samples of 50 mm x 0,5 mm for water absorption and color stability measurement. The samples in this study were divided into 4 groups consisting of control groups and treatment groups is sungkai leaf extract with concentrations of 30%, 35%, and 40% which were soaked for 2 days 12 hours and 50 minutes. The results were analyzed using univariate test, One-way Anova test, and LSD test. The mean water absorption of heat cured acrylic resin denture bases after immersed in sungkai leaf extract with 30% concentration was 0,408 ± 0,032 mg/cm2, 35% concentration was 0,472 ± 0,042 mg/cm2, and 40% concentration was 0,532 ± 0,039 mg/cm2. The mean color stability of the heat cured acrylic resin denture base after immersed in sungkai leaf extract with 30% concentration was 1,234 ± 0,205, 35% concentration was 1,885 ± 0,162, and 40% concentration was 2,789 ± 0,194. From the One-way Anova test results, the significance value of p=0,0001 (p<0,05) was obtained for water absorption and color stability. This shows that there is an effect of immersion of heat cured acrylic resin denture bases in sungkai leaf extract with concentrations of 30%, 35%, and 40% on water absorption and color stability. The results showed that the increase in water absorption and decrease in color stability produced at a concentration of 30% was smaller than the concentrations of 35% and 40%, but the values obtained were still clinically acceptable and did not exceed the normal limit values of color stability is ΔE <3,5 and water absorption is 0,8 mg/cm2 based on ADA No.12. Sungkai leaf extract with a concentration of 30% can be used as an alternative denture cleansing agents.
