Acrylic resin is a commonly used material in the fabrication of denture bases, however fractures often occur due to inadequate mechanical properties. Reinforcing acrylic resin with banana stem fibers not only enhances the mechanical properties of acrylic resin but also induces color changes. The objective of this research is to investigate the color differences in heat cured acrylic resin after the addition of alkali-treated banana stem fibers with and without dyeing using red dragon fruit extract. The research samples consisted of heat cured acrylic resin in plate form (64 mm x 10 mm x 3.5 mm). Thirty samples were divided into three groups (n=10): Group I (without fiber addition), Group II (with addition of alkali-treated fibers dyed with 10% red dragon fruit extract), and Group III (with addition of alkali-treated banana stem fibers without dyeing). Barangan banana stem fibers underwent alkali treatment by immersion in a 5% NaOH solution for 1 hour at 25°C, followed by dyeing with 10% red dragon fruit extract obtained through maceration technique. Six strands of fibers, each 64 mm in length, were arranged in the mold with a continuous orientation. Acrylic resin with a ratio of 2.3 g powder to 1 ml liquid was mixed and placed into the lower cuvette mold to cover the fibers. Pressing was then performed. Curing was carried out in a waterbath, gradually increasing the temperature to 74°C for 2 hours and then raising it to 100°C for 1 hour. Final finishing and polishing were performed after curing. Color measurements were conducted using a colorimeter. Data were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk normality test and One-Way ANOVA. One-way ANOVA indicated significant differences (p<0.05) in L*a*b* values among groups. In conclusion, there are color differences in heat-cured acrylic resin after the addition of alkali-treated banana stem fibers, with and without dyeing using red dragon fruit extract.
