Coconut water is the liquid found in coconuts. The average frequency of coconut water consumption among teenagers in Jakarta and Bandung is around 5 times a week. Coconut water has a low pH between 4.67-6.17 which can cause the release of ions from stainless steel and NiTi orthodontic wires. The aim of this study was to determine the difference in the average release of chromium ions in stainless steel and NiTi orthodontic wires after immersion in artificial saliva and a mixture of artificial saliva and green coconut water (Cocos nucifera var. Viridis) for 130 minutes. This laboratory experimental research used a Post Test Only Control Group Design research design with 24 stainless steel and NiTi orthodontic wire research samples with a diameter of 0.016, 5 cm long, totaling 24 pieces divided into 4 groups. Calculation of the average amount of chromium ion release using the ICP-OES tool. The results of the One-Way ANOVA test showed significant differences in the mean release of chromium ions in all treatment groups (p<0.05) with the mean value for stainless steel orthodontic wires after being soaked in an artificial saliva solution was 7.890 ± 0.023 ppb, and in a mixture of water. artificial saliva with green coconut water (Cocos nucifera var. Viridis) was 8.708 ± 0.033 ppb, while the average value for NiTi orthodontic wire after soaking in an artificial saliva solution was 7.640 ± 0.034 ppb, and in a mixture of artificial saliva with green coconut water ( Cocos nucifera var. Viridis) was 8.340 ± 0.037 ppb. Post-hoc LSD test results showed a significant difference in the average release of chromium ions between the stainless steel and NiTi orthodontic wire groups after being soaked in an artificial saliva solution and a mixture of artificial saliva and green coconut water (Cocos nucifera var. Viridis). The conclusion of this study is that green coconut water (Cocos nucifera var. Viridis) can cause the release of chromium ions in users of stainless steel and NiTi orthodontic wires.
