One The main bacterium that causes dental caries is Streptococcus mutans, which is capable of producing acid and causing demineralization of tooth enamel. Barangan banana peel extract has antibacterial compounds in the form of tannins, saponins and flavonoids. This study aims to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% barangan banana peel (Musa acuminata L.) extract against Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ bacteria. The samples were Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ and barangan banana peel extract with a sample size of 28 which were divided into 7 groups, namely group I (5% concentration), group II (10% concentration), group III (15% concentration), group IV (20% concentration), group V (fluoride), group VI (positive control), group VII (negative control). This study used Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method to determine MIC with Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) media and streaking method to determine MBC with Mueller Hinton Brooth (MHB) media. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone in groups I, II, III, V, and VII was 0.0 ± 0.0 mm, group IV was 6.075 ± 0.1708 mm, group VI was 24.2 ± 0.2828 mm. The average number of bacterial colonies obtained in groups I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII were 4200±63,650, 3816,75±110,581, 3568,75±88,407, 2805±78,854, 4087,75±139,915, 0.0±0.0, 4946,75±135,915 CFU/mL. Oneway ANOVA showed significant differences in each test group on the diameter of the inhibition zone and the number of bacterial colonies (p<0.05). Post Hoc Test (LSD) of inhibition zone diameter and number of bacterial colonies showed differences between test groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, 20% concenration was determined as the MIC value and included in the medium category and the MBC value of barangan banana peel extract against Streptococcus mutans bacteria was not found among the test groups.en_US
