Mother's Knowledge Level and Attitude About Dental Health and Supplementary Feeding for Stunted Toddlers in Merek District, Karo Regency
Abstract
Children under five years of age are still suffering from malnutrition worldwide, including Indonesia. In reducing the predominance of stunting, preventive behavior is needed, which can be influenced by a person's knowledge and attitudes. This study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes of mothers about dental health and supplementary feeding for toddlers with stunting in Merek District, Karo Regency. This research is a descriptive study where respondents will be given a questionnaire containing 10 questions that measure knowledge and 6 statements to measure attitudes about dental health and supplementary feeding in toddlers with stunting. Sampling was conducted using the Simple Random Sampling technique on 137 respondents, including mothers who have toddlers aged 0-5 years in Merek District, Karo Regency. The results showed that respondents who did not know what stunting was 15,9%, knew the composition of nutrients in toddler food by 59,8%, knew that one of the treatments for stunted toddlers was supplementary feeding 83,2%, there were respondents who had sufficient knowledge about dental health and supplementary feeding of stunted toddlers by 61,7%, over half of the respondents did not consent to being afraid of dental tools by 63,6%, just over half of the respondents agreed to try various ingredients, flavors, and textures in complementary foods by 93,5%, and just over half of the respondents agreed that toddlers aged 2-5 years could replace fruit consumption with vegetable consumption by 92,5%. The conclusion can be drawn that respondents know enough about dental health and supplementary feeding for stunted toddlers.
