    Abstract
Malocclusion can occur in both adults and children. The prevalence of malocclusion among children and adolescents worldwide is approximately 56%. One of the negative consequences that may arise if malocclusion is left untreated is an increased risk of dental caries because patients find it challenging to maintain good oral hygiene, leading to an accumulation of plaque on the tooth surfaces. The incidence of caries in deciduous teeth can be measured using the deft index. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between Dewey’s modification of Angle’s class I malocclusion and the deft index score of removable orthodontic patients at RSGM USU. This type of research is analytical research with a cross-sectional design and sampling techniques using purposive sampling methods. The sample of this study amounted to 133 people and was taken from a population that met the research criteria in the form of a good study model, complete treatment journal data, good panoramic radiographic, and active orthodontic patients aged 6-12 years at RSGM USU starting from January 2021. In this study, the assessment of the deft index for patients was conducted by examining the odontogram in the treatment journal. Subsequently, the assessment results were calculated to obtain the deft score. There is a significant relationship between Dewey’s modification of Angle’s class I malocclusion and the deft index score.
