Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a disease with many predisposing factors, one of which is nutritional deficiency. Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency have been known to be associated with RAS. The purpose of this study was to see the difference in salivary vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels between RAS and non-RAS patients among academic and professional students of the USU Faculty of Dentistry. This study was an analytical observational study with a case-control design involving 58 samples, consisting of 29 case groups (RAS patients) and 29 control groups (non-RAS patients) by matching the inclusion and exclusion criteria, as well as matching the sex and age of the case-control group. A purposive sampling methodology was used to pick the samples. Sample collection used unstimulated saliva with the drooling method. Measurement of salivary vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels using the ELISA method. Statistical data processing and analysis were done by Mann Whitney test. The results showed that salivary vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels in males were higher (12.7633 ± 2.1725 ng/mL) than females (10.9615 ± 2.9767 ng/mL), salivary vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels of RAS patients were lower (9.9621 ± 2.5529 ng/mL) than non-RAS patients (13.0793 ± 2.2577), and there was a difference in mean salivary vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels between the case group and the control group (p = 0.0001). The conclusion of this study is that there is a difference in salivary vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels between RAS and non-RAS patients in USU Faculty of Dentistry students.en_US
