A problem that often occurs in the use of fixed orthodontic devices is the detachment of the bracket from the tooth surface. The addition of hydroxyapatite in the form of nano particles is one way to improve bracket attachment in orthodontic treatment. Nano-hydroxyapatite can be synthesized from natural materials, namely duck eggshells. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of nanohydroxyapatite on the tensile strength of orthodontic resin adhesive. This research design is an experimental laboratory with a post-test only control group design. This study used 24 samples of upper and lower premolar teeth which were divided into 3 groups, namely without the addition of nano-hydroxyapatite, the addition of 1% nano- hydroxyapatite, and the addition of 3% nano-hydroxyapatite with 2 subgroups, namely 1 and 7 days of immersion. The samples (adhesive resin+nanohydroxyapatite) were bonded to the buccal surface of premolars after embedding them in self-cured acrylic resin. The tensile strength was tested using a universal testing machine. The mean values of the adhesive tensile strength of day 1 immersion orthodontic resin in the control, 1% nano-hydroxyapatite addition, and 3% nanohydroxyapatite addition groups were 3.505±0.535; 4.740±0.094; and 3.967±0.120 and the mean value of the adhesive tensile strength of the orthodontic resin on day 7 in the control group, the addition of 1% nano-hydroxyapatite, and the addition of 3% nano-hydroxyapatite was 2.727± 0.041; 4.222 ± 0.056; and 3.632 ± 0.079. Based on these results, the adhesive tensile strength value of orthodontic resin increased after the addition of 1% nano-hydroxyapatite and decreased in the 3% nano-hydroxyapatite group. The Kruskal Wallis test results showed a significant difference between the tensile test of the control and treatment groups and the Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between day 1 and day 7 in the control and treatment groups. Conclusion the research conducted is that there is an effect of the addition of nanohydroxyapatite on tensile strength.en_US
