    Abstract
Malocclusion is an oral health problem with a fairly high incidence, so orthodontic treatment is required. Preventive and interceptive orthodontic treatment is early treatment carried out to prevent more severe skeletal malocclusion disorders in the future. Removable orthodontic appliances have simpler treatment capabilities than fixed orthodontics. Cleaning the appliances using running water alone is less effective, so disinfectant is needed. Disinfectants made from natural ingredients are believed to have fewer side effects than disinfectants made from chemicals. One medicinal plant that can be used as an alternative disinfectant is ant nest (Myrmecodia pendans). The aim of the research was to determine the value of the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of ant nest tuber extract disinfectant (Myrmecodia pendans) at concentrations of 25.6%, 12,8%, and 6.4% against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923TM on self-curing acrylic resin plates of removable orthodontic appliances. This research method is laboratory experimental with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The samples in this study were ant nest tuber extract disinfectant with concentrations of 25.6%, 12,8%, and 6.4% with 0.2% chlorhexidine as a positive control and artificial saliva as a negative control. Sample testing using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method to determine the MIC and the streaking method from the inhibition zone in MIC testing to determine the MBC. The conclusion is that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ant nest tuber extract (Myrmecodia pendans) disinfectant against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923TM is a concentration of 6.4% with an average inhibitory diameter of 7.12±0.1095 mm. The minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of ant nest tuber extract (Myrmecodia pendans) disinfectant against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923TM is not in the concentration range of 25.6%, 12,8%, and 6.4% because it is unable to kill Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 25923TM with reduction percentage <98%.
