Incisional wound is a condition where abnormal damage occurs to the mucosa as a result of discontinuity of tissue caused by injury or surgical intervention. Incisional wounds often result in infection complications with a percentage of 14% - 16% for cases caused by postoperative wounds. Therefore, in periodontal surgical procedures, it is important to close the wound using periodontal packs. There are various types of topical treatments available for wound healing in the oral cavity, one of which is film. Films are adhesive, flexible, protect the wound surface, reduce pain, improve treatment effectiveness, and provide better comfort compared to other preparations. In the wound healing process, chitosan is ideal as a wound dressing because it has good biocompatibility and biodegradability. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of oral wound dressing film containing chitosan in increasing the number of fibroblast cells in post-incision wounds. This research is an in vivo laboratory experimental study with a post-test control group design for measuring clinical and histological parameters. The samples used were healthy male Wistar rats aged 2-3 months. The results of this study indicate that there is effectiveness of OWDF containing chitosan in wound healing as marked by an increase in categories from poor to excellent according to the Landry index, within a period of 14 days. Furthermore, chitosan OWDF can increase the number of fibroblasts higher than placebo OWDF in the proliferation phase of the post-incision wound healing process in Wistar rats.
