Efektivitas Obat Kumur Ekstrak Daun Tin (Ficus carica L.) terhadap Pertumbuhan Bakteri Staphylococcus aureus secara In Vitro
Effectiveness of Fig Leaf Extract Mouthwash (Ficus carica L.) on the Growth of Staphylococcus aureus Bacteria in Vitro
Abstract
Periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition that can cause damage to the supporting tissues of the teeth, such as the gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone. Staphylococcus aureus has a role in the formation of supragingival plaque. Plaque control is an important effort that needs to be done in preventing further plaque maturation which can be done by mechanical means, namely brushing teeth and chemically, namely by using mouthwash. Tin leaves have secondary metabolites that have antibacterial properties, namely flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, alkaloids, tannins, and triterpenoids/steroids. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of tin leaf extract mouthwash (Ficus carica L.) in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This type of research is a laboratory experiment with a post test only control group design. The sample of this study is tin leaf extract mouthwash which is divided into 3 concentrations, namely 50%, 25%, and 12.5, with a positive control of 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash and a negative control of placebo mouthwash. Data analysis used one way ANOVA test followed by Post Hoc LSD test. The results of this study showed that the inhibition zone produced by the 50% concentration of tin leaf extract mouthwash had an average inhibition diameter of 7.84 mm, 25% concentration had an average inhibition diameter of 7.12 mm, and 12.5% concentration had an average inhibition diameter of 6.56 mm. The tin leaf extract mouthwash (Ficus carica L) used in this study has moderate effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
