| dc.description.abstract | Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, heterogeneous,
complex, and multisystem autoimmune disease. Interleukin 6 is known influence
disease activity and organ damage in SLE patients. Several studies have been
conducted to investigate the association between IL-6 and disease activity.
However, there has been no study in Indonesia investigating the correlations
between this cytokine and organ damage based on SLICC damage Index-SDI
Score.
Methods: Retrospective study with cross-sectional design to 67 SLE outpatients
from Rheumatology Division General Hospital RSUP H Adam Malik Medan
during June until August 2023 who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood
samples were taken and IL-6 levels were measured at Integrated
Laboratory,Faculty of Medicine,Universitas Sumatera Utara. The data is processed
and statistical analysis is carried out. If the p value <0.05, it is declared statistically
significant.
Results: This study included 67 samples, 94% were mostly female, mean (SD) age
was 35.3 ± 9.78 years, median (min-max) diagnosis period was 35 (6 -183) months.
The average activity level was moderate (41.8%). With median SDI score (minmax)
is 1 (0-5), the most common domain of organ damage were kidney (38.8%),
eyes (16,4%) and neuropsychiatry (16,4%). The mean (min-max) IL-6 level was
63.39 (8.85966,67) pg/ml. A significant correlation was found between interleukin
6 levels and SDI scores (p=0.017) with the resulting strength level being weak (r >
0.2 – 0.4).
Conclusion: There is an correlation between Interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels and Organ
