Immunohistochemical Expression of L1cam Based on Subtypes and Histopathological Grading of Endometrium Carcinoma at Adam Malik and Prof. Dr.Chairuddin P.Lubis Hospital 2018-2022
Abstract
Background: Endometrial cancer is a malignant neoplasm of epithelial cells that
shows varying proportions of glands with papillary and solid architecture with
endometrioid cell differentiation (resembling the endometrium). Histopathological
classification based on tumor morphology and tumor grade has played an
important role in the management of endometrial carcinoma, allowing prognostic
stratification into different risk categories, and guiding surgical and adjuvant
therapy. There are several additional prognostic factors that may further refine the
prognostic stratification of endometrial carcinoma. Additional prognostic markers
by examining immunohistochemical factors, such as expression of the
transmembrane L1 cell adhesion molecule (L1CAM). L1CAM has emerged as one
of the most promising.
Objective: To determine the immunohistochemical expression of L1CAM in
subtypes and histopathological grading of endometrial carcinoma.
Materials and methods: This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional
approach on 23 hysterectomy samples diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma by
staining with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and L1CAM immunohistochemistry.
Results: Of the 23 samples, L1CAM immunohistochemistry based on the
endometrial carcinoma subtype was most commonly found in the endometrioid
carcinoma NOS subtype which expressed positively in 7 cases (46.7%) and based
on endometrial carcinoma grading it was high grade endometrial carcinoma in 15
cases (88.2%). %).
Conclusion: L1CAM immunohistochemical examination based on positive
expression in high grade endometrial carcinoma.
