Introduction. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a thrombus formation in deep veins
that often occurs in stroke patients. D-Dimer examination is used to predict DVT
in stroke patients. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between D- Dimer
levels as a diagnostic tool for DVT in acute ischemic stroke patients at Haji Adam
Malik Hospital Medan. Methods. This study was an analytic study with a
retrospective cross-sectional design that took place from May-August 2023. The
study sample was selected by consecutive sampling. The study will use doppler
ultrasound as the gold standard and analysed D-dimer data with the SPSS program
using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Results. Of the total 49 patients, 35
patients met the inclusion criteria. 24 people (68.6%) were male, 23 people (65.7%)
were >50 years old. Body Mass Index (BMI) showed that 30 people (85.7%) were
in the BMI range between 18-24.9. The mean D-dimer value was 2153.43
(±1506.88) ng/mL. 21 (100%) DVT were asymptomatic. Well's score found 15
samples score 1 (42.8%), 20 samples (57.2%) score 2, the probability of DVT based
on well's score was in the moderate range, 35 (100%). Fisher's Exact Test value
0.028 (p-value <0.05). Conclusion. There is an influence between the level of DDimer
levels and the incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in patients who
experienced acute ischemic stroke.
