| dc.description.abstract | Background: Heart failure is a clinical syndrome caused by structural and functional defects in the myocardium resulting in impaired ventricular filling. Progressiveness heart failure with a history of hypertension can cause ventricular enlargement, ventricular diastolic dysfunction, ventricular remodeling resulting in anatomical or structural changes in the heart which cause modifications of P waves on electrocardiography (ECG) in the form of variations in increasing the duration of the P waves from 12 leads which is called P Wave dispersion and affects ventricular mass heart is known through echocardiography examination, nHowever, these examinations are still limited to first-level health facilities,sSo an initial examination tool that is easily available and used is needed, namely an electrocardiogram (EKG) examination by assessing the P wave dispersion which describes the left ventricular mass index (LVMI) on echocardiography of heart failure patients so that the aim of this study is to assess the correlation of P wave dispersion with the left ventricular mass index ( LVMI) in heart failure patients at
H. Adam Malik Hospital
Method: This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional design with retrospective data collection from medical record sources. This research was conducted in June – December 2023 at H Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. The sample for this study was all chronic heart failure patients from January – June 2023 at H Adam Malik Hospital Medan who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Selected subjects had electrocardiography and echocardiography data recorded, then data analysis was carried out.
Results: The number of samples that met the inclusion criteria in this study was 60 people and was divided into samples with an average P wave dispersion of ≥36 ms and <36 ms and left ventricular mass index (LVMI)men 189.2 g/m2 and women
172.8 g/m2. There is a significant correlation and moderate strength of the relationship between p wave dispersion and left ventricular mass index (LVMI).(r= 0.462, p = 0.001).
Conclusion: There is a correlation between P wave dispersion and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) in heart failure patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital. | en_US |
