The Relationship Between Family Support and Self Care Behavior of Diabetes Mellitus Patients at Puskesmas Datuk Bandar Kota Tanjungbalai in 2023
Abstract
Self care is an activity that can be done by DM patients in maintaining health status, preventing complications, and minimizing the occurrence of health problems that will lead to death. Indonesia in 2021 reported that around 19.46 million cases with vulnerable ages 20-79 years affected by diabetes and in Tanjungbalai City reached 1,695 cases with DM sufferers who received health services according to standards as many as 1,602 people or 94.5%. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research related to the relationship between family support and self care behavior of diabetes mellitus patients at the Datuk Bandar Health Center Kota Tanjungbalai. This research is a quantitative research with a crossecsional design. The population in this study was people with diabetes mellitus at the Datuk Bandar Health Center as many as 41 people who were taken using the total sampling technique. The data collection by interviews. The test was carried out using the Chi-square test. The results of this study are the age of the most respondents in the age range of 60-65 years 46,3 percent, the highest respondent gender in the male sex 53.7 percent, non-working work 58.5 percent. Then based on the last level of education, the highest respondents in elementary school education were (41.5%). There is a relationship between age and education with self-care measures at the Datuk Bandar Health Center Tanjungbalai City. There was no relationship between sex and occupation with self-care measures at Datuk Bandar Health Center Tanjungbalai City. There was significant relationship between family support and self-care in diabetic patients at Datuk Bandar Health Center with p value 0,031. It is hoped that the community health center will be more active in providing education about self-care knowledge and family support so that sufferers can understand self care well.
