The Correlation of Spirituality and the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Klambir Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency
Abstract
Spirituality and quality of life are among the numerous challenges encountered by the elderly as the population of elderly individuals in Indonesia and worldwide increases. As this population grows, there is a greater need to enhance their quality of life to make their lives more meaningful. This Research aims to examine the correlation between spirituality and the quality of life of the elderly in Klambir Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict. Deli Serdang Regency. This quantitative Method carrying our a descriptive correlational and cross-sectional approach involves 92 elderly individuals in Klambir Village, selected by using non probability sampling with the accidental sampling technique. The instruments for the Research include a modified DSES (Daily Spiritual Experience Scale) and quality of life questionnaire. The data are processed using Spearman Rho. The Research finds than among 92 respondents, 88 (95.7%) have high spirituality, while only 4 (4.3%) have low spirituality. Regarding the quality of life, 85 (92.4%) respondents have a high quality of life, 3 (3.3%) have a moderate quality of life, and 4 (4.3%) have low quality of life. The results reveal a significant correlation
between spirituality and the quality of life among elderly in Klambir Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, with p-value= 0.001 (<0.05) and r = 0.354. There is a moderately strong positive correlation, indicating that higher spirituality is associated with a more meaningful quality of life. In
conclusion, there is a significant correlation between spirituality and the quality of life among elderly in Klambir Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency.
