    Abstract
Pulo Brayan flyover is built above Jalan Kolonel Yos Sudarso that lies from Jalan Pertempuran to Jalan Pertahanan. Being close to the roadway causes the street vendors to be exposed to pollutants coming from gas emissions from motor vehicles daily. This study was done to assess the levels of PM10 and SO2 at ambient air and complaints of respiratory tract symptoms of vendors around the Pulo Brayan flyover area. Descriptive study was used as the research method with 40 samples obtained from total sampling technique. The measurement showed that the highest PM10 level was found at point III with 14 μg/m3, while the highest SO2 level was seen at point I with 54.62 μg/m3. The mean temperature, mean humidity, and range of windspeed were at 31.7ºC, 47.5%, and 0.1-1.5 m/s, respectively. Based on the measurements, the PM10 and SO2 levels were still below the quality standard. 23 out of 40 vendors had complaints of respiratory tract symptoms with cough being the most common symptoms reported by 13 participants (30.0%). Most participants, 11 people (27.5%), complained that the symptoms occurred uncertainly at any time, during or after work. This study concluded that the PM10 and SO2 levels at ambient air were still below the quality standard. Vendors are recommended to wear masks while trading, especially during the busy traffic hours to reduce the exposure to pollutants and air particles. Also, the government is suggested to arrange land and location planning for vendors to avoid the exposure of PM10 and SO2, and plant pollution-absorbing plants around the Pulo Brayan flyover in Medan.
