    Abstract
Typhoid fever is an infectious disease that attacks the digestive tract caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhpi. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that around 11-21 million cases of typhoid fever occur each year. Typhoid fever is an endemic disease in Indonesia whose causes are usually related to personal hygiene. This study aims to examine the relationship between individual characteristics and personal hygiene with the incidence of typhoid fever in the work area of the Mulyorejo Community Health Center, Deli Serdang Regency in 2023. This research is a type of quantitative analytical research with a cross sectional research design. The population in this study are people who live in the working area of the Mulyorejo Community Health Center. The sample for this research was 100 respondents taken using accidental sampling. The analysis used is univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test. Data collection used interview techniques with research questionnaires. The results of this study showed that the frequency of typhoid fever was 28 people who had suffered from typhoid fever in the last year and 72 others who had not suffered from typhoid fever in the last year. The conclusion from the research results shows that the variables that are related to the incidence of typhoid fever in the Mulyorejo Community Health Center working area are education (p=0.045), the habit of washing hands after defecating (p=0.041) , the habit of washing hands before eating (p=0.039), and snack habits (p=0.044),. Meanwhile, variables that did not have a relationship with the incidence of typhoid fever in the Mulyorejo Community Health Center working area were age (p=0.442), gender (p=0.920), and the habit of washing raw food ingredients that will be eaten directly (p=0.674).
