The Correlation of Knowledge and Preventive Action Against Tuberculosis Transmission among Pulmonary TB Patients at Hamparan Perak Public Health Center (Puskesmas Hamparan Perak)
Abstract
As a contagious disease, Tuberculosis which infects one-third of the world's population and causes numerous deaths has become a global health issue. With
824.000 cases and 93.000 deaths, Indonesia has placed in the third highest country with tuberculosis incidence in the 1rorld, surpassing India and China. The fight against tuberculosis must be supported by adequate knowledge which includes all that pulmonary TB patients need to know, such as understanding the disease. its transmission, and prevention. Preventive actions to curb further transmission of tuberculosis are crucial for pulmonary TB patients. This Research aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and preventive actions against tuberculosis transmission among pulmonary TB patiens at Puskesmas Hamparan Perak. This Research uses a quantitative descriptive correlational method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consists of 51 pulmonary TB patients selected using purpose sampling. The Research finds that 23 patients (45.1%) ha1·e a moderate level of knowledge about tuberculosis. In addition, 38 patients (76.5%) fall into tire moderate category in their knowledge for pre1·entive actions. Data analysis using the Spearman Rho correlation test yields a p-value of 0.014 with r=(-342), indicating a correlation between knowledge and preventive actions against tuberculosis transmission among pulmonary TB patients at Puskesmas Hamparan Perak. It is recommended that Puskesmas Hamparan Perak provide education on tuberculosis prevention and transmission and monitor health cadres controlling medication to conduct home visits, and ensure more detailed supervision for pulmonary TB patients to take their routine medication.
