Health-Seeking Behavior for Influenza Treatment Among Residents in Timbang Deli, Village, Medan Amplas Subdistrict
Abstract
Acute Respiratory illness (ARI) typically presents with sudden high fever, flu (coryza), cough, inflammation of the 11pper and lower respiratory tract, headache, and fatigue. Health behavior is an individual's response to stimuli or objects related to illness and disease, healthcare systems, food and beverages, and the environment. This study aims to describe health-seeking behavior for flu treatment among the residents of Medan Amp/as. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The population of this study includes all residents of Medan Amplas subdistrict, totaling 19,299 individuals, with 9,581 males and 9,718 females. The sample size for this study is 385 individuals. The study was conducted in Timbang Deli Village, Medan Amp/as Subdistrict, Medan City. from November 2023
to June 2024. The results show that the majority of respondents self-medicate when experiencing flu(cough-cold-fever), with 44.7%doing so. Among those who self-medicate, 65.7% choose flu medication (relief for cough, cold, fever, pain). Additionally, 66.5%of respondents who do not see improvement with self-medication seek treatment from another doctor. In conclusion, respondents primarily self-medicate when experiencing flu, using flu medications, and if symptoms persist, the majority opt to visit a doctor
