    Abstract
Hypertension is a degenerative disease which is the silent killer because it has no complaints or special characteristics. Indonesia is in 5th place out of ten countries with the highest cases of hypertension in the world. This study aims to examine the relationship between socio-economics, knowledge and family support with treatment adherence for hypertension patients at the Bandar Khalipah Community Health Center, Serdang Bedagai Regency. This research uses a cross sectional design. The population in this study were patients with hypertension aged 18 to 64 years who came for treatment at the Bandar Khalipah Health Center, Serdang Bedagai Regency. A research sample of 100 was taken using accidental sampling. Treatment adherence was measured using the Modifed Morisky Adherence Scale-8 questionnaire, while socio-economic variables, knowledge and family support were measured using a questionnaire whose validity and reliability had been tested. Most respondents had insufficient knowledge at 91 percent and had insufficient family support at 61 percent, with hypertension patients' medication compliance being the most in the non-compliant category at 64 percent. The results of bivariate tests using Chi-square showed that socio-economics and treatment adherence were related to education level (p=0.014), while those that were not related were employment status (p=0.248) and income (p=0.548). It was also found that there was a relationship between knowledge (p=0.001) and family support (p<0.001) with treatment adherence in hypertensive patients. It is recommended that the public to be aware about the importance of compliance in treating hypertension. It is hoped that the Bandar Khalipah Community Health Center will routinely carry out follow-up and does health education on hypertension patients with poster or leaflet.
