Relationships Duration of Work, Tenure and Eye Relaxation with Eye Fatigue in Employees Communication and Informatics Central Tapanuli
Abstract
Eye fatigue is a subjective condition caused by the use of the sense of sight in doing work that requires the ability to see objects at close range over a long period of time. Eye fatigue often occurs in workers who use computers. Based on data from NIOSH reports as many as 75 - 90% experience complaints of eye fatigue due to computer use. This study aims to relationships duration of work, tenure and eye relaxation with eye fatigue in employees communication and informatics central tapanuli. The type of research is quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. Sampling using purposive sampling was 37 people. Data collection was taken based on the VFI questionnaire and the 20 - 20 -20 Method Eye Relaxation observation sheet which was then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 21 employees (56.8%) experienced eye fatigue (VFI ≥ 0.4) and 16 employees (43.2%) did not experience eye fatigue (VFI < 0.4). The most common eye fatigue experienced is eye pain, eye heat, eye strain, double or shadowed vision. Statistical test results showed that there was a relationship between duration of work (p value = 0.007), tenure (p value = 0.016), and eye relaxation (p value = 0.036) with eye fatigue. It is recommended to routinely conduct eye examinations on employees, pay attention to the length of work, install software or programs to remind eye breaks on each computer and make reminders in the form of sticky notes on the work desk.
