Factors Associated with The Incidence of Osteoarthritis in The Elderly Outpatients of Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital in 2023
Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease related to joint cartilage. OA most commonly affects the vertebrae, pelvis, knees and ankles. According to the GBD 2017 Study, the reported number of global OA sufferers is around 303.1 million people with an estimated prevalence of 3,8 percent. According to the results of the 2018 Indonesia Riskesdas, the prevalence of joint disease was (7.3%)and in Sumut was (5.3%), while the prevalence of joint disease in Medan City was (3.97%). In 2015, joint disease was included in the ten largest diseases in 3rd place, which amounted to (11.91%) in Medan City. Data from 2020 found that the prevalence of OA at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital in Medan City was(1,14%).. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of OA in the elderly who seek outpatient treatment at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital in Medan City. This type of research is an analytic with Cross sectional design. The sample in this study were 104 people taken using purposive sampling technique. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between age (p=0,012), gender (p=0,001), body mass index (p=0,035), and history of joint trauma (p=0,003). It is suggested to the community to always be aware of joint diseases and other degenerative diseases by always carrying out clean and healthy living behaviors and routinely checking their health at the nearest health facility. For health agencies including Dr. Pirngadi Hospital in Medan City are expected to provide information to the public about joint disease to increase knowledge and actions to prevent various joint diseases. For other researchers, it is hoped that further research can be carried out regarding the risk factors that cause OA, the degree of pain and the severity of OA.
