dc.description.abstract | Indonesia produces more than 28 million tons of waste every year, of which 64.56% is managed waste and the remaining 35.44% is unmanaged. Traditional markets are one of the largest sources of waste in Indonesia with a percentage of 17.4%. The composition of waste in traditional market areas is dominated by organic waste. The presence of organic waste that is not managed properly can cause odors and disease. One way to reduce organic waste is with the bioconversion method. Hermetia illucens/Black Soldier Fly (BSF) insect larvae are one of the organisms that can be used as a bioconversion agent, better known as "maggots". This research aims to determine the effectiveness of waste decomposition by H. illucens larvae and to determine the influence of H. illucens larvae in breaking down organic waste. The research method uses the Pre-Experimental Design method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design. H. illucens larvae were placed in 200 gr of different waste media for 20 days. The treatment of giving organic waste to decompose H. illucens larvae was carried out every 4 days. The research results showed that the total decomposed organic waste was an average of 176.4 g (vegetables), 141.6 g (fruit) and 115.2 g (fish). The type of vegetable waste had the most significant influence on larval growth with an average increase in larval growth of 106% or weighing 86 g. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed that there was a significant difference in the results of decomposing organic waste using H. illucens larvae compared to organic waste that was not treated with H. illucens larvae. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the ability of H. illucens larvae to break down organic waste has a significant and effective influence in breaking down market organic waste. | en_US |
