dc.description.abstract | This research is entitled Symbolic Violence Against Women in the "Induk Gajah" Film
Series by Muhadkly Acho: Semiotic Analysis of Roland Barthes. This research aims to
determine the symbols of violence against women in the "Induk Gajah" film series by
Muhadkly Acho. This research uses a qualitative approach with qualitative methods that
require researchers to argue in interpreting the object under study. The data collection
method used in this research was collected directly from the scenes shown in the film and
by library research. This research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, which consists
of the meaning of denotation, connotation, myth, and five reading codes. The results of this
research are seven scenes that have been explained using denotative and connotative levels
and five reading codes. The symbolic violence found in the "Induk Gajah" film series by
Muhadkly Acho is the domination of power in the family, the normalization of parents who
pressure their offspring to marry at a certain age, freedom for women, the application of
beauty standards to women, and patriarchy to women. Apart from that, there are myths
found in this film series, namely patriarchal culture and beauty myths. | en_US |
