    Abstract
Synthesis of sodium cellulose sulfate by sulfation reaction between cellulose from paper and sulfuric acid. Preparation of paper samples was carried out without treatment, washing using NaOH 2% and NaOCl 2%, and isolation with the addition of HNO3 3.5%, NaOH 2% and Na2SO3 2%, NaOCl 1.75%, and H2O2 10%, the washing paper produced cellulose of 19.8698 g (26.49% of the initial weight) while the isolated paper produced cellulose of 12.6462 g (16.86% of the initial weight). Synthesis of sodium cellulose sulfate through the sulfation reaction of paper cellulose with H2SO4 98% using ethanol solvent. The formation of sodium cellulose sulfate is supported by FT-IR spectrophotometer which shows that in the wave number region 3391.0 cm-1 stretching vibration of -OH group, 2892.3 cm-1 is CH2 stretching vibration, 1212.1 cm1 S=O group and 996.4 cm-1 C-O-S group which is stretching and bending vibration respectively. The sulfur content of sodium cellulose sulfate can determine its substitution degree to determine the best sample preparation treatment.. The degree of substitution values were 0.256; 0.77; and 1.21, respectively. SEM morphology showed that the fiber surface of sodium cellulose sulfate was shorter than cellulose. Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) test can determine the particle size of sodium cellulose sulfate of 0,15244 μm. The electrical conductivity test shows that the highest current strength is found in sodium cellulose sulfate from α-cellulose.
