Analysis of the Impact of Electromagnetic Wave Radiation Pollution From Mobile Phone Use on Sleep Quality on Faculity of Public Health Students Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2024
Abstract
Mobile phones produce electromagnetic wave radiation when operated and can affect a person's sleep quality. Poor sleep quality can reduce concentration, social interaction, and physical and emotional health. The aim of this research is to analysis the impact of electromagnetic wave radiation pollution from mobile phone use on the sleep quality on Faculty of Public Health students Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2024. This research is a descriptive study conducted at the Faculty of Public Health, University of North Sumatra in January 2024. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a sample size of 100 students. The data collection used was a questionnaire in the form of a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out statistically using univariate analysis tests. The results of this research involved 14 male students and 86 female students. A total of 97 respondents (97%) were included in the bad category in their cellphone usage patterns, namely using cellphones to play on social media and so on before going to bed. As many as 80 respondents (80%) experienced poor sleep quality. The Poco cellphone brand has the highest radiation levels in all conditions and the highest radiation when charging and in use reaches 10.53 (μW/cm²). Students need to be educated about healthy cellphone use patterns before bedtime and know cellphones that have low levels of radiation
