| dc.description.abstract | Hypertension is often referred to as the silent killer because it is a condition that can remain asymptomatic for years. Problems arise when blood pressure remains uncontrolled over a long period. Obese individuals have a 2.2 times higher risk of developing hypertension compared to those with a normal BMI. This study aims to analyze the relationship between obesity and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly in Paluh Kurau Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency. The study involved 72 elderly respondents, who were included after meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria and signing informed consent. This research used a correlational analytic design. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi- Square test, revealing that among the elderly, 55 respondents (90.2%) who were obese had hypertension, and 6 respondents (9.8%) who were obese did not have hypertension. Among non-obese elderly, 7 respondents (63.3%) had hypertension, and 4 respondents (36.4%) did not have hypertension. The study found no significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly in Paluh Kurau Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency, as indicated by a p-value of 0.062. In conclusion, there is no significant relationship between obesity and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly in Paluh Kurau Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency. | en_US |
