    Abstract
    Blood pressure is the pressure exerted 011 the walls of arteries as blood is pumped from the heart 1'1ro11gho11t the body. Blood pressure exceeding the normal limit of 140/90 mmHg is referred to as hypertension. Hypertension is often called the silent killer because the condition often shows no clear symptoms. The increased prevalence of hypertension can be attributed to various factors that influence elevated blood pressure levels. The research aims to identify the factors affecting blood pressure in Desa Tandem Hilir I Deli Serdang Regency. This quantitative research uses 011 analytical design with a cross sectional approach. The research population and sample consist of 65 hypertensive patients in Desa Tandem Hilir I. collected using a total sampling technique. This research uses chi-square analysis (p-value<0.05) with univariate and bivariate analysis. The research results show that factors affecting blood pressure are age (p-value= 0.017), family medical history (p-value=0.005), overweight or obesity (p-value=0.01/), and stress (p­ value=0.000). In addition, factors that do not affect blood pressure are sex (p­ value=0.424), smoking (p-value=0.830}, salt consumption (p-value=O. I86), and physical activity (p-value=0.622). Elderly people with chronic diseases are more likely to experience an increase in blood pressure. Various factors affecting the increase in blood pressure in the elderly are age, family medical history, obesity, and stress.
