Correlation between Sodium Consumption and Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Patients in Klumpang Kampung Village
Abstract
High sodium in the body results in water retention which triggers an increase in blood pressure. Hypertension is a disease characterized by an increase in blood pressure that causes cardiovascular disorders due to functional changes of arterial blood vessels. Controlling hypertension can be done to reduce the risk of hypertension, one of which is by reducing sodium consumption. his research aims to determine the characteristics of respondents, sodium consumption of hypertensive patients and the correlation between sodium consumption and blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Klumpang Kampung Village. Descriptive correlation method is used in this research with a total of 70 samples taken using total sampling technique. The research uses the Chi-Squared test with the results obtained namely p=1 (>0.05). The research results indicate that there is no correlation between sodium consumption and blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Klumpang Kampung village. The research concludes that HO is accepted and Ha is not accepted which means that there is no correlation between sodium consumption and blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Klumpang Kampung village. Therefore, it is important to keep sodium consumption within normal limits and to understand other factors that cause hypertension.
