The Relationship Between Individual Characteristic and Work Attitudes with The Incidence of Low Back Pain in Clamim Shellers in Pekubuan Village Tanjung Pura Sub-District
Abstract
Low back pain is a complaint that is widely experienced by formal and informal sector workers. This complaint is caused by sitting for too long which can cause the abdominal muscles to soften and the spine to curve, making workers tired quickly. The number of Indonesians who have a history of low back pain cannot be known with certainty, but can be estimated between 7.6% and 37%. The prevalence of this complaint increases with age. The highest number of LBP cases occurs in the age range of 50-55 years. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between individual characteristics (age, gender, length of service and BMI) and work attitude with the incidence of low back pain in clam shellers in Pekubuan Village, Tanjung Pura District. The research was conducted using quantitative method with cross-sectional study approach. Sampling using purposive sampling technique with the results obtained were 45 workers. Data collection was taken based on low back pain questionnaire and work attitude questionnaire which was then analyzed using Spearmen correlation test. The results showed no relationship between individual characteristics and work attitudes with the incidence of low back pain (p value> 0.05). Therefore, workers routinely do stretching or light exercise to maintain spinal health, keep paying attention to work postures, avoid work postures that put pressure on the spine such as squatting postures and if in the future they find pain in the back, immediately see a doctor to get appropriate treatment.
