Prevalence of prehypertension in adults in the world is 36 percent while in Indonesia 48.4 percent. Prehypertension increases the risk of hypertension in the future if not managed properly. This study aims to analyze the influence of age, gender, family history of hypertension, smoking habit, physical activity, sodium intake, fat intake and BMI on the incidence of prehypertension. The research design is cross-sectional with a sample size of 184 people obtained using a multistage random sampling technique. The research instruments were questionnaires, digital blood pressure monitors, body scales, microtoises and food photo books. Bivariate data analysis using simple logistic regression and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression. The research results showed that 53.3 percent of early adults experienced prehypertension. Family history of hypertension, smoking habit, sodium and fat intake and BMI influence the incidence of prehypertension. The most influential variable is smoking habit. The types of food containing high sodium and fat consumed were vegetable rice cakes, instant noodles, beef jerky and fried foods. Young adults in Pekanbaru City are advised to stop smoking habit and maintain a diet, especially one that contains high sodium and fat.
