Open defecation is an unhealthy lifestyle where defecating in any place can pollute
the environment and cause various types of environmental-based diseases such as
diarrhea. Open defecation free (ODF) is one of the government's programs to
tackle the problem of defecation. This research aims to determine the factors
related to ODF status at Sipolu-Polu Village, Mandailing Natal District. The type
of research is observational analytics with a cross sectional design, the sampling
technique is consecutive sampling with a sample size of 100 families. Data
collection was obtained directly by researchers through observation and surveys
using research questionnaires. Data analysis shows that the variables are
livelihood (p-value = 0.000), level of education (p-value = 0.011), knowledge (pvalue
= 0.008), attitude (p-value = 0.026), ownership of a healthy toilet (p-value =
0.000), land availability (p-value = 0.000), family income (p-value = 0.000), and
the role of the head of the family (p-value = 0.036) have a significant relationship
with ODF status. So, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between
livelihood, level of education, knowledge, attitudes, ownership of healthy latrines,
land availability, family income, and the role of the head of the family with ODF
status in Sipolu-Polu Village, Mandailing Natal Regency. It is necessary to provide
education regarding ODF by health workers in accordance with the intended
targets and build latrines and communal storage pits in each village/sub-district
according to the population. This is done to ensure that sub-districts can be verified
as 100% ODF
