Analysis of The Presences of Mercury (Hg) and Cosmetic Use Behavior in USU Faculty of Public Health Student in 2024
Abstract
Cosmetics are indispensable to both men and women and are used continuously every day all over the body. Cosmetics are generally a mixture of various chemical compounds, some made from natural sources and most from synthetic materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge, attitudes and actions of students about the dangers of cosmetics containing mercury (Hg) and to determine the presence of mercury (Hg) in cosmetics used by students at the USU Faculty of Public Health. The type of research used is descriptive research. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 92 people. The object of this study amounted to 6 samples based on the research that has been done by testing all samples there is no presence of mercury. This shows that all samples have met the requirements based on BPOM regulation Number 12 of 2019 so that they are safe to use. The largest proportion of the age of students at the Faculty of Public Health USU is 20 years old with 30 students (32.6%). The largest proportion of the USU Faculty of Public Health student cohort is 2020 with 33 students (35.9%). The largest proportion of parents' occupations is self-employed as many as 31 students (34.1%). The largest proportion of parents' income of USU Faculty of Public Health students is in the range of Rp.3,000,000-Rp.5,000,000. The largest proportion of students of the Faculty of Public Health USU for a long time using cosmetics is 3 years as many as 29 students (31.5%). The largest proportion of the USU Faculty of Public Health student knowledge category was in the good category with a total of 91 students (98.9%). The largest proportion of the attitude category of USU Faculty of Public Health students was in the positive category with a total of 85 students (92.4%). The largest proportion of the action category of USU Faculty of Public Health students is in the good category with a total of 78 students (84.8%). Students are expected to using cosmetics that have official and safe licenses in order to stay away from dangerous cosmetics those containing mercury
