Peran Pemerintahan Mahasiswa (PEMA) dalam Mewadahi Kepentingan Mahasiswa (Studi Kasus: Pemerintahan Mahasiswa Universitas Sumatera Utara Periode 2021-2022)
The Role of Student Government (PEMA) in Accommoding Student Interests (Case Study: University of North Sumatra Student Government Period 2021-2022)
Abstract
Intra-campus student organizations position themselves as controllers of university and government policies. However, over time, intra-campus organizations have shifted their function to become a forum for criticizing government policies and do not support the interests desired by students. Therefore, this study aims to explain and describe the role of the Student Government or the highest student organization at the University level in accommodating student interests. This is based on the work program given by the USU Pema for the 2021 period to students. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, namely research that aims to be based on data obtained in the field and is accurate and in the form of interviews according to the specified informants. To strengthen the explanation in this study, the researcher uses democratic theory, role theory and political communication theory.
Based on the methods and theories used, the results of this study are that the role of the Student Government of the University of North Sumatra 202-2022 was not implemented optimally due to several work programs that were continued based on the previous Pema and this was not in accordance with the conditions of USU students. In addition, there are several other challenges or obstacles in the form of low human resources, minimal student participation, lack of communication with the rectorate and the minimum term of office of the Student Government of the University of North Sumatra.
