Hubungan Penerapan Safety Briefing dengan Penggunaan Alat Pelindung Diri pada Pekerja di Bagian Pengolahan Pabrik Kelapa Sawit Pagar Merbau

Abstract

A work environment filled with increasingly complex machines and work tools can exacerbate safety and health issues. One of the control measures employed is the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). However, workers often perceive PPE as unimportant or trivial. Consequently, their compliance with PPE usage remains low, leading to a significant risk of work accidents. The behavior of utilizing PPE is influenced by various factors, including antecedent factors such as safety briefings. Effective safety briefings serve as catalysts for promoting safe behavior among workers. This research aims to determine the relationship between safety briefing implementation and the use of personal protective equipment on processing workers at Pagar Merbau Palm Oil Mill. Data were analyzed using a crosssectional approach to determine this relationship. The study population and sample comprised 60 workers from the processing section. Data collection involved interviews, direct observations, and questionnaire administration. The analysis revealed a significant relationship between safety briefing implementation and PPE usage (p = 0.020 < p = 0.05) at the Pagar Merbau Palm Oil Factory. It is recommended that processing workers enhance their discipline and awareness regarding PPE usage, as it is mandatory according to company regulations. Additionally, companies should conduct regular safety briefings using various media, evaluate the content and delivery methods to enhance engagement, and provide tailored information about PPE relevant to potential hazards at each workstation to heighten worker awareness
