Analisis Dampak Pencemaran Radiasi Gelombang Elektromagnetik dari Penggunaan Laptop Terhadap Gejala Hipersensitivitas pada Mahasiswa Fkm Usu Tahun 2024
Analysis of the Impact of Electromagnetic Wave Radiation Pollution From Laptop Use on Hypersensitivity Symptoms on Faculty of Public Health Students Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2024
Abstract
The use of laptops has become integral to daily life, especially among students, driven by the demands of the digital era which require fast and instant access. However, excessive use can lead to health issues, particularly concerning the electromagnetic radiation emitted by laptops. This research aims to determine the impact of electromagnetic wave radiation pollution from laptop use on hipersensitivity symptoms on Faculty of Public Health students Universitas Sumatera Utara. Conducted in January 2024, this descriptive study utilized purposive sampling on 100 students from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 cohorts. Data was collected through Google Form questionnaires. The findings indicate that a significant portion of respondents experienced mild symptoms of electromagnetic hypersensitivity, with 39 respondents (39%) reporting such symptoms. Subsequently, electromagnetic radiation measurements were conducted on various laptop brands using a Dosimeter. Results revealed that while the HP EliteBook laptop was charging and in close proximity, the radiation level reached
5.76 μW/cm², significantly higher than when the laptop was not in use. High levels of electromagnetic radiation exposure may pose risks of electromagnetic hypersensitivity, especially with prolonged exposure. It is recommended for daily use to maintain a safe distance between the laptop and the body and to limit radiation exposure by avoiding excessive laptop usage or improper positioning
