Abstract
The Central Bureau of Statistics of North Sumatra Province in 2021 noted that there were 3.9 million women of childbearing age out of 7.3 million female residents who needed sanitary napkins during menstruation. Sanitary napkins must meet health requirements and not contain chlorine chemicals that can cause reproductive health problems. This study aims to analyze the chlorine content in sanitary napkins and the level of knowledge, attitudes and actions of female students at the Faculty of Public Health, University of North Sumatra about the use of sanitary napkins. The object sample of the study consisted of 5 samples of sanitary pads with iodometric titration method. The knowledge of female students about the use of sanitary napkins is mostly in the good category (57.8%), the attitude of female students is in the good category (81.1%), and the actions of female students are in the less category (51.1%). The results showed that 8 female students (8.9%) had a good level of knowledge and action and 11 female students (12.2%) had a good level of attitude and action. It is expected that the relevant authorities can conduct monitoring, supervision and guidance on the use of chlorine in sanitary napkins and check the chlorine content of sanitary napkins in circulation. The sanitary napkin manufacturers are expected not to use chlorine or other hazardous chemicals in the process of manufacturing sanitary napkin products
