Design and Construction of a Wind Power Plant Using a Horizontal Axis Archimedes Turbine
Abstract
Wind is one of the alternative energy sources that will not run out available in nature. This energy can be utilized into various things, one of which is a source of energy for mobilization. This research aims at wind turbines that utilize wind as a source of driving energy and changes or modifications will be made to the horizontal axis Archimedes wind turbine blades so that they can rotate or work in areas that have moderate wind speeds of 5.5 m/s – 10 m/s (meters per second) according to the Beaufort scale. From the results of this study obtained at a wind speed of 5.5 m/s obtained 52.0 RPM on the mill and the highest 299.1 RPM when the wind speed is 10.0 m/s. The type of transmission used is a chain spoket transmission with a ratio of 2.5: 1, and forwarded to a permanent magnet DC generator. So that the generator speed is 137.7 RPM with a voltage of 3.9 Volt DC and the highest of 794.4 RPM with a voltage of 23.2 Volt DC without load. Using a 5W DC Lamp load obtained the highest power of 2.7 watts. Then when connected to the load of the 9W DC Lamp obtained the highest power of 2.4 watts. So it can be concluded that the horizontal axis achimedes wind turbine has an impact because it has succeeded in issuing enough power for purposes such as turning on 5W and 9W DC lights at moderate wind speeds of 5.5 m/s – 10 m/s.
