The Correlation Between Medication Adherence and Blood Sugar Levels in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Bulu Cina Village
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that occurs when the body is no longer able to produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin properly and effectively. One way to keep blood sugar levels within normal limits is with medication adherence. The factors affecting medication adherence namely age, sex, education, work, income, time length of suffering from diabetes mellitus, frequency of taking medication and medication supervisor. This research aims to analyze the correlation between medication adherence and blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Bulu Cina village. It uses quantitative methods with Descriptive Correlation research design and a cross-sectional approach. The research samples consist of 66 people collected using Purposive Sampling technique. Data are collected using distributing questionnaires regarding medication adherence and checking blood sugar levels. Data are analysed using the Spearman Rho' correlation test, with a value of p=0.016 which indicates a significant correlation between medication adherence and blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. This correlation is indicated by the value of r=0.295 which belongs to a relatively strong category. Based on the results of this research, it is advisable for future researchers to further develop the research regarding medication adherence and blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
