dc.description.abstractThe environmental conditions of traditional markets in Indonesia are generally poor, with dirty, muddy conditions, and piles of garbage that cause odors. Sidikalang Traditional Market managed by the government is still not clean because there is a lot of scattered garbage, indiscriminate waste water disposal, inadequate temporary disposal sites that cause the market to become dirty and smelly. This study aims to analyze the condition of market sanitation and management of Sidikalang Traditional Market in 2024. The type of research used is a descriptive survey by means of observation and interviews. The research location is Sidikalang Traditional Market. The population in the study was the market and traders totaling 210 people. The number of samples was 68 traders with sampling techniques using Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. The measurement method uses observation sheets based on PERMENKES No.17 of 2020, using questionnaires to traders and interview forms with market managers. Sidikalang Traditional Market Sanitation based on PERMENKES No.17 of 2020 assessment, only block A (Clothing) and block B2 (Cosmetics) meet health requirements (72.3%). The characteristics of traders were female (72.1%), in the age group of 20 30 years (29.4%), and in the 1 5 years of work group (36.7%), and most worked above 8 hours per day (64.7%). Sidikalang Traditional Market traders based on the application of hygiene and sanitation, most respondents do not always clean the selling location every day (69.1%), do not always clean up the garbage that accumulates (60.2%), do not have a trash can in their stall (70.6%), do not wash their hands in the available place (70.6%), and market management is also still not good. It is recommended for the government or market managers to improve and provide market sanitation facilities that are not yet available. It is recommended that traders maintain market cleanliness by disposing of garbage in its place and providing trash bins in their respective stallsen_US
