dc.description.abstract | Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol produced through a reduction process from
glucose and a hydrogenation reaction at high temperature and pressure. Sorbitol is
widely used in the chemical industry such as in the food, cosmetic, toothpaste,
polymer and pharmaceutical industries, where it is usually used as a food sweetener
and thickener.
The pre-designed factory for making sorbitol from tapioca flour through a
catalytic hydrogenation process has a production capacity of 20.000 tons/year and
operates for 330 days/year. The main process in this factory design consists of three
stages, namely the glucose formation stage, the catalytic hydrogenation reaction
stage, and the sorbitol purification stage. In the pre-design of the factory for making
sorbitol from tapioca flour, it involves two main reactions, namely the hydrolysis
reaction of starch into glucose which takes place in the liquefaction and
saccharification reactor and the catalytic hydrogenation reaction which takes place
in the hydrogenation reactor.
The pre-design location for the sorbitol factory from tapioca flour through
a catalytic hydrogenation process is planned to be in Bumi Ratu Nuban District,
Central Lampung Regency, Lampung Province with a building area of 13.050 m2.
The planned form of business entity is a Limited Liability Company (PT) and the
organizational form is line and staff with a workforce of 276 people.
The results of the pre-design economic evaluation of the sorbitol plant are
as follows:
• Total Investment Capital = Rp. 846.025.329.750
• Total Production Cost = Rp. 393.899.234.413
• Total Sales Results = Rp. 807.521.604.314
• Total Net Profit = Rp. 288.142.980.636
• Profit Margin (PM) = 50,97%
• Break Even Point (BEP) = 21,56%
• Return on Invesment (ROI) = 34,06%
• Pay Out Time (POT) = 3 tahun
• Return on Network (RON) = 56,67%
• Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 44,97%
From the results of the economic evaluation it can be concluded that the
Sorbitol Factory from Tapioca Starch through the Catalytic Hydrogenation Process
is feasible to be established. | en_US |
