Factors Associated with the Incidence of HIV in the Age Group 17-65 Years in RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan City in 2023
Abstract
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks white blood cells by destroying CD4 cells resulting in decreased immunity. The global HIV prevalence was 0.49 percent in 2019, with an IR of 19.17 per 100,000 population and CFR of 1.69 percent in 2021. HIV prevalence in Indonesia was 0.19 percent with an IR of 13.4 per 100,000 population in 2021. Medan City HIV cases in 2021 with an IR of 12 per 100,000 population. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of HIV in the age group 17-65 years at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan City in 2023. This study used quantitative analytic research with a cross sectional design, the sample size was 115 people. The sampling technique was done by purposive sampling. Univariate data were analyzed descriptively and bivariate data were analyzed by chi-square test. The results showed that the proportion of HIV positive prevalence was 60%. Based on statistical tests, variables with a p value <0.05 were stated to be related to the incidence of HIV, while variables with a p value>0.05 were stated to be unrelated. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between gender, occupation, sexual intercourse, and STI protection efforts with HIV incidence at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan City in 2023. Advice to homosexuals not to have risky sexual intercourse and transmit HIV to their partners. For the community to avoid deviant sexual practices such as homosexuality and unsafe sexual practices to avoid the risk of HIV infection
