    Abstract
    This study aims to analyze and determine economic sectors in Tanjungbalai City, so that it can be used as a guideline to determine what actions must be taken to accelerate the existing growth rate. In this study, the data used are secondary with a period of 2017 – 2021 from the GRDP of Tanjungbalai City and North Sumatra Province The analytical tools used in this study are: 1) Location Qoutient Analysis (LQ), (2) Shift share analysis, and 3) Klassen Typology Analysis. Based on the results of Location Qoutient (LQ) analysis, it shows that the base sectors are (1) the Mining and Quarrying sector, (2) the Processing Industry, (3) Electricity and Gas Procurement, (4) Water Procurement. Waste Management, Waste and Recycling (5) Construction(6) Wholesale and Retail Trade; Car and Motorcycle Repair (7) Transportation and Warehousing (8) Provision of accommodation and food and drink (9) Government Administration, Defense and compulsory social security (10) Other Services. Shift share analysis shows that sectors that are competitive sectors are (1) Wholesale and Retail Trade; Car and Motorcycle Repair (2) Processing Industry (3) Construction(4) Government Administration, Defense and Compulsory Social Security. Klassen's typology analysis shows that the developed and growing sectors are (1) manufacturing industry, (2) wholesale and retail trade; Car and Motorcycle Repair (3) Mining and Quarrying (4) Accommodation and Food Provision (5) Transportationand Warehousing.
