Qatar's state-run news agency posted articles that essentially contained Qatar's support for groups considered militant by financing radical Islamic groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS, Saudi Arabia felt that the stability of its national security was threatened by the news. so in 2017, Saudi Arabia cut its diplomatic relations with Qatar. This research was studied to find out what are Saudi Arabia's interests in maintaining its national security in the termination of diplomatic relations with Qatar in 2017. The theories used in the research are international relations and national interests. The research method used is qualitative research.
The termination of diplomatic relations carried out by Saudi Arabia against Qatar is because some of Qatar's foreign policies have always been in conflict with Saudi Arabia, one of which is where Qatar is accused of providing funds to groups considered terrorist groups by Saudi Arabia. In addition, there are good relations between Qatar and Iran, and several policies so that Saudi Arabia severed its diplomatic relations with Qatar. Some of these policies interfere with Saudi Arabia's security interests where the Muslim Brotherhood's relationship with Qatar threatens Saudi Arabia's security and defense, the increasing level of democracy in Qatar has reduced the power of Saudi Arabia's hegemony in the Middle East Region, and Qatar's good relations with Iran hamper Saudi Arabia's ambitions in the 2030 Vision Mission in the security sector.
