Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the cancers with the highest number of new cases in Southeast Asia and the most prevalent in Indonesian women. Factors that influence the incidence of breast cancer are so diverse and potential for someone to have one of these risk factors. Epidemiologic studies showed that risk factors are divided into non-modifiable factors including genetic factors, family history, age, and gender. Modifiable risk factors include lifestyle and environment, such as a high-fat and low-fiber diet, lack of physical activity and radiation exposure. In addition, hormonal factors such as age at first menstruation, age at menopause, and use of hormonal contraceptives also play a role in breast cancer risk. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of breast cancer at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan in 2024. This type of research uses quantitative research with a case control. Sampling technique used purposive sampling method with a total of 50 respondents consisting of 25 cases and 25 controls. The results of this study indicate that there is no associated between age at diagnosis, family history, age at first menstruation (menarche), age at first childbirth, menopausal age, and obesity with breast cancer incidence at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan in 2024. Then there is a association between breastfeeding history with p value = 0,002 and OR = 6,729 as well as use of hormonal contraceptives with p value = 0,009 and OR = 5,091 with the incidence of breast cancer at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan in 2024. This study is expected to be able to explore more deeply about breast cancer risk factors with the same or different variables and methods so that progress can be seen in the discovery of associated risk factors
